Get a message right away to your own Kansas Congressional representative, voicing opposition to Trump’s Freeze on Federal Grants.
Why
After hours on Monday, January 27th, the Office of Management and Budget put out an order to federal agencies to halt disbursements of federal grant funds by end of business today, Tuesday Jan 28th. (politico)
Claim: To review them for wokeness.
It was an unprecedented wrench to throw in the works, threatening thousands of non-profits and local government programs and many times that amount of workers and clients. The order was deliberately aggressive and vague, leaving many to wonder all day if it applied to them.
This is an example of “more lawlessness and chaos in America as Donald Trump’s Administration blatantly disobeys the law by holding up virtually all vital funds that support programs in every community across the country.” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in a statement.
“They say this is only temporary, but no one should believe that...”
The Trump administration put out a milquetoast “clarifications” - but no one is sure where this stops. Just before 5 pm (ET) this evening, a federal judge in Washington DC stayed the order pending a hearing next Monday. (nbc, reflector)
While the chaos is temporarily held at bay —- Monday will come. The time for Congress to hear from constituents is now.
Example Message
Dear _________,
This sudden order to halt grants and funding is illegal and outrageous. We are an important nation with a complex economy and many needs. Good people are being hurt and cast aside. This is chaos - it is not the way we do things in America. We are certainly looking to you to care and stand up against it. I sincerely Thank You.
