Of those, 54 Democratic candidates filed to run for the Kansas House and 18 for the Kansas Senate. A list of all Democratic candidates having filed for Kansas House or Senate is being maintained at HarvestBlue.

Over 80% of those filings are for Districts in the most populous five Counties in Kansas: Douglas, Johnson, Sedgwick, Shawnee and Wyandotte.

There is emerging energy, however, in the remaining counties, with 13 candidates having filed to date.

Incumbents Senator Jeff Pitmann of Leavenworth (District 5) and Senator Usha Reddi of Manhattan (District 22) have announced their bids for reelection. Lawrence Moreno of Winfield and Mike Soetaert of Wellington have each filed in Senate District 32. Austin Stapleton of Pittsburg filed to run in the 13th Senate District.

Representative Sydney Carlin of Manhattan (House 66) has already filed her reelection paperwork for the Kansas House.

Jordan Metcalf of Pittsburg and Melesia Rhodes of nearby Arma have both filed from Crawford County in southeast Kansas (House Districts 3 and 2, respectively). Elena Super of Paola and Aimee Bateman of Leavenworth will be running in northeast Kansas (House 6 and 41)

Mic McGuire is running for House District 60 from Emporia, while Lori Blake of Assaria (Saline County, District 69) and Javion Napier of Lindsborg (McPherson County, District 73) will be campaigning in central Kansas.

To date no Democratic House or Senate candidates have formally filed for Districts west of Saline/Reno County column, though it is understood recruiting and pre-announcement planning and file-by-petition efforts are ongoing.

The deadline to file for 2024 Primary ballot is noon on Monday June 3rd. This is also the date for current and prospective Precinct Committeepersons to register for the ballot.

July 16th is the deadline to register to vote or update voter registrations. Advanced voting begins Wednesday July 13th and voting opportunities continue through to Election Day, Tuesday August 6th. Check your local County election office and the Secretary of States office for more details.

The Kansas Democratic Party is sponsoring a candidate and campaign volunteers training in Salina on Saturday afternoon, May 4th. Registration required by the Wednesday before. Additional information for prospective Democratic candidates can be found on the KDP 2024 Candidate Portal.
