Kansas Democrats Condemn Trump’s Actions Against Ukraine
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Abilene, Kansas, March 2, 2025 --Kansas Democratic organizations spoke out Saturday to condemn the Trump administration's actions toward Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, including statements made at a White House press conference on Friday, February 28.
At “Washington Days” in Topeka, the Kansas Democratic Party’s annual winter meeting, a resolution in support of Ukraine and condemnation of President Donald Trump and Vice-President JD Vance’s behavior on February 28, 2025 was adopted by leading independent organizations of Kansas Democrats, including the Kansas County Chairs Caucus, the Big First District Congressional District Caucus, and the Fourth District Congressional Caucus.
"The people of Kansas share a kinship with Ukraine over our shared agricultural history and love of family and place, and we can't just watch this administration sell them out, especially as it undermines the foundations of our own security," said Rebecca Perkins, Chair of the Kansas County Chair Caucus. "We condemn the Trump administration’s capitulation to Vladimir Putin and we call upon fellow Kansans of all political leanings to stand up in support of integrity and freedom.”
The Democratic leaders demanded that leaders in Washington, including Kansas Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall, stand firmly against any moves to abandon Ukraine.
The resolution was circulated and approved during meetings of Kansas Democratic caucuses and approved later that day by the full Kansas Democratic Party state committee.
"So many of our members arriving in Topeka on Friday heard about the disgraceful press conference as they drove in,” said Mark Schaukowitch, chair of the Rooks County Democrats. “The sense of betrayal was profound. We are compelled to speak out clearly in defense of American values."
