CD1 Demands Accountability for USAID Closure
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
1st Congressional District, Kansas – On Tuesday, February 4th 2025, unelected President Elon Musk, and elected President Donald Trump, illegally announced that all staff for USAID would be put on leave this Friday, February 7th.
Over the next couple days, Musk and Trump have announced that the agency would cease operations, putting billions of dollars that Kansans rely on in jeopardy.
Specifically, USAID’s program Food for Peace, purchases $2.1 billion dollars in agriculture per year. This program was created by Kansas Senator Bob Dole to buy excess crops to feed the hungry outside the country.
Furthermore, shuttering USAID could impact up to $72 million dollars’ worth of agricultural programs at K-State, threatens the continued operations of Kansas based nonprofits and private agricultural analytics firms.
Kansas Senator Roger Marshall, who lives in Florida but lists his residence in Kansas, is championing the end of USAID. This will devastate the agricultural economy of Kansas. How does Senator Marshall plan to account for these massive losses to Kansas and its farmers?
We, the executive board of the Congressional District 1 Committee of Kansas Democrats, are demanding that the people of the Big First stand up and fight!
Call your federal legislator immediately! Demand accountability from the Trump Administration!
