From Election Action to Vital Issues - Democrats to Engage at Washington Days

Saturday morning at KDP's Washington Days will highlight great speakers and new initiatives, as Democratic Caucuses and Congressional Districts hold their individual meetings.

The Progressive Caucus will kick off the action at 8 am to make plans and commitments for the most progressive thing a Kansan can do in 2024 - breaking the GOP supermajority. Chair Melinda invites progressives to join in the action.

The Disability Caucus will also be meeting at 8 am to discuss goals for year ahead.

Other groups meeting at 8 am include LGBT Caucus, Asian American and Pacific Islander Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, Veteran and Military Families Caucus, the County Chairs Caucus

The next set of meetings starts at 9 am Saturday, featuring Rural Caucus, African American Caucus, Labor Caucus, Kansas Federation of Democratic Women, Local Elected Officials Council and the Kansas Young Democrats.

The Food and Farm Caucus will meet at 11 am with guest speaker Nick Levendofsky, Executive Director of Kansas Farmer's Union. Nick will highlight KFU recommendations on the Farm Bill and other federal and state priorities. Since 1907, Kansas Farmers Union has worked to protect and enhance the economic interests and quality of life for family farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. The Food and Farm Caucus will also discuss the new HarvestBlue website initiative.

The state’s four Congressional District Democratic Committees will meet individually at 10 am, with a priority on delegate selection business. The CD1 Big First committee will also hear a presentation on research conducted of best practices for organizing in rural counties.

Other group events during the day include DNC National Convention delegate training at 11 am, the Kansas High School Democrats at 2 pm and Vote Builder Training at 4:30 pm.

The State Committee meeting convenes at 3 pm, with credentialing beginning at 2 pm. The Washington Days luncheon runs from 12 to 1:30 while the Evening Banquet, featuring Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for the Keynote, begins at 7 pm.

Washington Days is the primary annual statewide meeting for the Kansas Democratic Party, held this year at Hotel Topeka from Friday March 15th-Saturday March 16.
